So this year, Pete and I are taking Wine-Dark Sea north. We will retrace the steps we took last year on Pilgrim, but heading as far north as Magnetic Island. We will be taking friends, meeting friends, racing at Airlie Beach and Magnetic Island, then cruising home to Sydney. If we can just get ourselves organised in these last two weeks, we will be set.
Since my last entry, Pete has managed to convert Wine-Dark Sea to a beautiful cruising boat, with solar power to keep batteries charged, a fully functioning water maker, a holding tank for the electric head, proper deck cleats, 80 meters of new anchor chain….the story goes on. In the last few weeks, our brilliant cover maker Max has created a boom bag, new zip on boat covers and our “rectangle” a battened cover designed so it can go anywhere we need shade or protection from damp.
With all these additions and new main and furling jib, we feel ready to go, if only we can fit us, all our stuff, 2 cats and various crew into the remaining spaces. Estimated departure date is currently 30th July, but no later than 1 August, as we need to be in Airlie Beach by 11 August. Once we get Wine-Dark Sea back from the yard, hopefully tomorrow, we will have a clearer idea of how ready we really are!
Stay posted for updates on departure 😊⚓️⛵️
